Enrollment/Participation
There is no cost to clients and/or family members to participate in PWI's services.
Qualification
PWI's primary funding comes from the California Department of Rehabilitation (DR). Clients must qualify for services from DR. For more information on DR eligibility, download the Consumer Information Handbook [RTF - 56 KB]. You might also be interested in the Guide to Services.
First Steps
- Regional Center CSC (Client Services Coordinator) needs to make client referral to PWI.
- Client's background information needs to be sent to PWI by the CSC.
- PWI will conduct an assessment of the client's interests and goals.
- Client will need to attend a DR 'intake meeting' which includes the DR Counselor and PWI staff.
- PWI will arrange this meeting and notify you when it will be held.
- Eligibility for DR services is determined.
- DR may request that a copy of your most recent physical exam and/or require a new physical examination.
- If you have had a physical exam in the past year, please bring a copy of the exam records to the meeting. PWI's services cannot be funded until medical approval is granted.
- When your case with DR is opened, your DR counselor will send PWI a letter stating that you are eligible for services.
- When the approval notice is received from DR, PWI can then begin to work with you.
Important
- The steps for opening a case with DR can take up to 60 days or longer.
- Please communicate proactively with your PWI manager. Call and let us know if you need more information or support to get through the enrollment process.
- Your manager will let you know if other things need to be done to get started with PWI.
- It is only when you complete all steps that we can begin working together.
- PWI is here to assist you all along the way - let us know if you need more support along the way.
