VII.              Agency Overview

2005 was a year of transition and success.  PWI provided quality services throughout the year leaving a lasting impact on the lives of many individuals.  Through a concerted team effort, PWI has made great strides as an organization and as a provider of services to adults with developmental disabilities. As a result, PWI is a recognized leader in its field. We are very proud of PWI's performance and its dedication to quality services and managed growth. PWI is in strong programmatic, organizational and fiscal condition.

We expanded services increasing financial security. This has been an amazing period, and the credit goes to the excellent employee’s of 100+. Thanks to a supportive Board of Directors and the 650+ persons served annually, PWI continues to meet its mission.

Our CARF accreditation survey was conducted in early 2003. PWI utilizes CARF standards as a guideline for ensuring quality. Despite the challenges in our field, PWI has maintained quality and improved services throughout. PWI received the highest accreditation outcome awarded: three-year accreditation, zero recommendations for improvement (less than 3% of all accredited organizations have achieved this tremendous status), and over 20 strengths and exemplary practices notes (best practices in our field).

We've come this far -- now what? We can never rest on our accomplishments or be satisfied. History teaches us that the future holds unexpected challenges. The year ahead will undoubtedly be very difficult. Due to unprecedented State of California budget problems, all State funded operations have been, and may continue to be severely impacted. PWI will be challenged in ways that will stress the organization at all levels. However, we know that we will respond in creative, intelligent, and visionary ways to cope with whatever lays ahead. As a team, we will focus on:

•      Aggressively seeking financial support from the community (individuals, corporations, foundations) in the coming year.        •      The Board will welcome new members and continue its outreach and ambassadorship in the community. Increased community collaboration is made possible with connections established by PWI's Board.

Continually improving our services in every way.

•      Sharing our ideas freely.

•      Collaborating and thinking proactively.

•      Continually reassessing our short and long-term priorities.

•      Providing an environment of positive work and professional growth.

•      Ensuring that achieving our mission is the bedrock of all that we do.

•      Deliver the best service to the business partners that provide the important opportunities for the clients of PWI.        •      Most importantly, provide quality, caring, and personalized services to the individuals who choose PWI as their service provider.

To everyone who has been a part of our outstanding team in 2005, thank you! I look forward to partnering with you in 2006 to continue our important services to individuals with abilities.

Vickie Cap, Vice President/COO
